Gastronomy, distinguishing component of Mexican tourism

Mexico, Jul. 27 (Notimex) .- The cuisine is a distinguishing component that allows us to attract more visitors to the country, the Deputy Minister of Quality and Regulation of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur, for its acronym in Spanish), Salvador Sanchez said.

At the opening of the chiles en nogada season in Puebla, the official mentioned that the food preparation industry has a share of 10% in national tourism from the gross domestic product (GDP).

According to the Tourism Ministry, it is estimated that 30% of the actual expenditure by international tourists corresponds to food and the industry employs 1.4 million people in 515 thousand establishments in the country.

Therefore, Sanchez said, it is important to create spaces, festivals, exhibitions and gastronomic routes that allows the use of natural and cultural resources and generate development in the localities.

As an example, the season of chiles en nogada reassures Puebla as a gastronomic destination, capable of attracting a large number of tourists for authentic travel experiences.

In addition, the value chain, directed by the state government is strengthened, since every time the traditional dish is prepared, local products are used to favor the regions of Puebla, he said.
